Thai embassy official dies in road accident

A Thai embassy official, travelling with the visiting Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in Bangladesh, was killed in a road accident on Thursday(18-02-10). Police and local media said a car of the Thai princess' convoy collided with a pickup van at Mirzapur on their way from Gaibandha to Dhaka. Princess Sirindhorn's car was not hit. But Pannee Likanajule, 55, a counsellor of the Thai embassy in Dhaka was critically injured. She was initially admitted to Kumudini Hospital in Mirzapur but later flown to the Combined Military Hospital in the capital by air ambulance on life support. Doctors at the military hospital declared her dead at 5.05pm, CMH medical "The patient suffered internal haemorrhages from the accident. She also had cardiac complications. Thailand's Princess Sirindhorn went to Gaibandha on Tuesday at the invitation of Jivita Bangladesh, a local voluntary organisation, to observe the country's rural life and culture. The princess is visiting Bangladesh as part of a US research team from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University.

Andromeda is the closest large galaxy to us, 2.5 million light-years from the sun.Nasa has published the first images from its Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, or Wise, which has been scanning the skies since January. "Wise has worked superbly," said the agency's Ed Weiler in Washington DC. The images include a comet, a "star factory" 20,000 light years away in our Milky Way galaxy and our nearest large neighbour, the Andromeda spiral galaxy. Wise will search on until October when its supplies of frozen coolant for chilling instruments will run out.

Greenlights Microsoft Yahoo web deal-Brussels


European and US regulators gave their blessing to Microsoft's plan to take on Yahoo!'s internet search and advertising business, designed to challenge market leader Google."The European Commission has approved... the proposed acquisition of the internet search and search advertising businesses of Yahoo! Inc. by Microsoft," said a statement from Brussels.

Microsoft's plans to buy Yahoo's internet search and search advertising businesses have been cleared by both European and US regulators. The European Commission ruled that the deal "would not significantly impede effective competition".Under the deal, Yahoo's website will use Microsoft's Bing search engine, and the two firms will share the revenues. Microsoft is seeking to increase its share of the search engine industry, which is dominated by Google.It and Yahoo first announced the planned tie-up in July of last year.
